a visual orgy :: night at the movies

You smell like... crazy religion... and pineapples.

Oh, Cameron. What is it about you that peaks my interest whenever I hear your name? I have seen far too many films in which you were involved, and you are one of the very small pool of women over 35 that I find... exceptionally appealing. And Cruise? You are quite the paradox. In "RL," you come off as a pompous, crazy douche who actively professes the validity of Scientology; however, on film, you're this charismatic individual capable of fantastic, heroic feats. What?

June Havens [Cameron Diaz] is on her way home from picking up parts to restore her deceased father's GTO [grease-monkey chicks are hoooot] when she bumps into Roy Miller [Tom Cruise] at the airport — several times. After a mishap of not getting on her flight, she sees the man she met seemingly at random walk onto her flight. Agent Fitzgerald [Peter Saarsgard] has been watching Roy via security cameras and thinks June is connected to Roy so he gets her onto the flight. Innocently, she begins to flirt with Roy, telling her about her dreams and wishes, softening to the drinks she having. She eventually heads to the washroom to freshen up — and give herself a pep-talk, convincing herself into going after this mystery man. As this goes on, with comical contrast, Roy fights and kills the few passengers and pilots who are in fact agents/assassins sent to retrieve Roy and something in his possession: the Zeyphr. June comes out moments later, Roy waiting for her with drinks — and to explain that everyone is dead.

Quirky dialog, hilarious scenarios, and over-the-top action send the fated to meet duo racing across two continents, with Agent Fitzgerald, a secret government organization, and a Spanish arms dealer [Jordi Mollà] hot on their trail. Who is Roy Miller? What is the Zeyphr? What will happen "someday"?

Dual MP7A1s with extended magazines? Sure. Why not?

I feel like I've been here before. Didn't I see a movie that had man with elite training that inexplicably fell for an "average" woman and they ended up going on a crazy adventure or something? Curious. Well, whatever it was, it sure as hell didn't blow me away like this one did. Let me rephrase that: how I expected to react [meh.] and how I actually reacted [Hahahahahaha!] were very different. If you've been following me for a while, you know I adore campy flicks. The silliness of this movie is incredible in that it never gets saturated, blending smoothly with and throughout the film. K&D made me laugh repeatedly, chuckling at all the dialog and impossible stunts.

Although the chemistry between Diaz and Cruise wasn't as strong here as I've seen between other leads, their individual charm and charisma was more than enough to keep my attention through this flick. Unlike other actresses, Diaz is endearing and adorable in her frantic, frazzled innocence. She squeaked and squirmed and ran about the screen in a way that'd make a grown man say "awww..." [not that i'd ever do that. nope. *watching a video of a baby penguin tickled* awww....] There were even a few parts of bad-assery she had and they were believable. And I still have yet to get over that smile of hers [*longing sigh*]. With Cruise, his humorous quips alongside deadpan expressions made me chuckle away my severe dislike of Scientology that I needlessly attached to him. The guy may believe in fund-sucking ridiculousness, but boy can he act. His performance was extraordinary, delivering lines that would shoot proverbial milk from my nostrils in childlike fashion. Yes, the humor is 100% attributed to the writers, but his execution is dead on. Plus, I'm not sure if they used prosthetics or not but damn... he is built for a guy two years from 50.

Knight & Day is on the cuff of 3M into 4M, and the only reason why I don't want to give it a full four Mysturs is because even though I had a blast watching it, it was nothing new or edgy or genre changing. It was formulaic and nothing I really hadn't seen before. It was executed superbly, though, so this may be one of the first 3M flicks that I recommend seeing in theaters post-Matinée prices. That's right. Smuggle in those snacks and drinks because you'll easily be dropping the $12 to see this after 5 pm. And it'll be worth it.

To Cameron: I love long walks on the beach, candle-lit dinners, and I have a tongue like a jackhammer. Think about it. <3 RATING:

rock hard. live harder. o_O
